The SunSoar Paragliding Flying Centre

Where you choose to learn can make a tremendous difference. As one of the UK's longest established and most successful schools, Sunsoar Paragliding (formally Northern Paragliding Training) have a lot to offer. We are conveniently situated between the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, and have excellent and uncrowded sites for every wind direction.

We are only 15 minutes from junction 38 of the M6 and 15 minutes from the A66 trans-pennine road. By rail, the famous Settle to Carlisle railway passes close by. For a map showing directions to our centre, click here

The Dales/Lakes area is among the best in the UK for paragliding, with many height and distance records set from the hills around our base and national competitions are also held here. We have several fully qualified instructors, at least three of whom hold the 'BHPA Senior Instructor' rating (the highest level available), all are friendly experienced professionals.

Our Centre is conveniently located on the main road through Kirkby Stephen. We meet at the Centre each morning and offer theory lectures in our dedicated classroom equipped with video and teaching aids. We share our premises with Northern Paragliding Ltd, the largest equipment supplier in the UK so there is a shop, stocking everything for the aspiring aviator from tee-shirts to the latest harnesses and paragliders. There is always a good selection of used equipment in stock, with each used glider being checked and test flown. Prices for used gliders start from as little as £500.

Our training equipment consists of a wide range of modern canopies to cater for all weights and abilities. A low student to instructor ratio enables us acurately assess each individual ensuring progress through the course at your own pace. Classes are informal and everone is encouraged to ask questions, join in discussions and help each other.

Our experience is that paragliding attracts people from a huge cross-section of society, so groups are always an interesting mixture of people from all backgrounds. There is nothing like the shared experience of your first flight for making friends.
