2020 DatesTBC
This will be our third Ride and Fly trip and it was great fun last year in Morzine. In 2020 we are planning to head to Switzerland to explore a completely different area. |
The LocationThe fabulous location of Morzine in the northern French Alps is our base with a lovely morning mountain flight accessible by cable car in the summer on our doorstep. Within an hours ride are the slopes of Grand Bornand and Chamonix, offering much longer mountain flights and descents into alpine meadows. The mountain roads and high passes in this area make for fabulous motorbike touring. |

The FlyingAlthough the emphasis on the Ride and Fly trip is mostly about the riding there will be plenty of opportunities to fly. We will be exploring some flying sites that regular Sunsoar clients have not used before, along with the firm favourites of Annecy and Chamonix, so there should be something to suit everyone. We won't be aiming to go cross country as we will have to land back by our motorbikes in order to get home! |

Travel arrangementsThe outline plan is for all the riders and the minibus crew to meet up at a hotel in Folkestone on the evening of Fri 12 July 19 and stay one night there, before taking the Eurotunnel train across to Calais the next morning. We will then ride to the Dijon area on Sat 13 July 19 and stay overnight in a budget hotel. On Sun 14 July 19 we will ride on to Morzine through the Jura mountains, arriving at the chalet in the afternoon, hopefully in time for a flight in the local area! We will then be based in the chalet in Morzine from Mon - Fri, riding out each day along the Route des Grand Alps and flying in Samoens, Annecy and Grand Bornand, returning each night to the chalet. On Sat 20 July 19 the ride home begins and you can make your own plans for that phase. The support vehicle will be heading slowly back to Calais behind you and will be contactable in case of breakdown/accident. N.B. You will need to have breakdown cover for France in case your bike needs recovery to the UK. |

AccommodationWe will be staying in a comfortable chalet, sharing twin rooms on a self catering basis in the centre of St Jean d'Aulps village, which is approximately 15 minutes drive from the nearest take off in Morzine. It is a short walk from the local bars, cafes and a small supermarket. We normally eat out at the various local restaurants at night, but you can cook in the chalet if you prefer. There is also a local pizzeria that does delicious take aways!
You can checkout the chalet here: https://www.chaletlesglycines.com/
