We will be located near Neos Panteleimonas, a village at the foot of lower Mount Olympus with a beautiful view of the Castle of Platamonas and the sandy beaches of the Olympic Riviera. Neos Panteleimonas is located on the Northern Greek Mainland.
The flying area covers the three mountains of Pieria in the north, Olympus and Ossa / Kissavos in the south – forming a long range just along the coastline of the Aegean Sea and separated by impressive valleys. Olympus with its highest peak Mytikas – 2,918 m – is the highest mountain range in Greece and the famous seat of the Greek Gods.
This region divides naturally into two very distinctively different landscapes: The gentle and green northern slopes next to the sea and the dry and arid southern region towards the flatland.
If you are an experienced pilot the south will offer you fantastic cross-country and thermalling opportunities. Less experienced pilots will enjoy dynamic soaring on the northern slopes. There the mild conditions are ideal for your first experience with thermal flights.
There are 8 different sites covering 15 take-offs for all wind directions. This ensures that on a daily basis we can match wind directions and flying conditions with a suitable flying site.
We will be accommodated in a comfortable, family-run hotel or cosy guest houses on a bed and breakfast basis – all of them with excellent and friendly service. They provide a rich breakfast with local and fresh Greek products. Hotels are located near the long, sandy beaches of the Olympic Riviera so that you can enjoy a relaxing swim in the sea after flying. The main beach landing area is located in front of the hotel (for landing after a flight from the local take-off or a successful XC flight).
The traditional guest houses are located in the historical mountain village of Paleos Panteleimonas (just below the local take-off with the view of the beach where we land). The rooms are specially decorated in traditional style and you will be impressed by the view from Mount Olympus to the sea.
The nearest airport is located in Thessaloniki, the second largest city of Greece, 115 km and round about 1:30 h by car away from our accommodation. Thessaloniki is served by several airlines with direct flights from the UK.
All transport in Greece, including transfer from the airport to our local accommodation. Daily minibus shuttles to take off and pick up for XC land outs (or back to take off if necessary). We will have a local guide with us who will take us to the best site for the daily weather conditions.
